REO MATSUMOTO

Reo Matsumoto is an exceptional handpan player and beatboxer who understands how to combine rhythm, melody and groove in a unique way.

Early on, he discovered his passion for percussion and experimental soundscapes, developing over the years a distinctive musical style that blends elements of electronic music, hip-hop, African rhythms, and world music. Reo is known for his engaging and creative teaching style, which allows each participant to playfully develop their own musical voice.

Reo Matsumoto – Handpan Workshops

In his workshops, participants learn how to creatively combine beatboxing and handpan playing. Beginners discover the fundamentals of beatboxing and learn how to translate rhythms onto handpan phrases to develop their own grooves. All levels can practice Spirit Finger techniques to play fluid, groovy handpan phrases and improve their finger dexterity. Reo also hosts jam sessions where participants improvise together to a variety of musical styles, including house, hip hop, African, downtempo, lo-fi, and psytrance. For advanced players, he offers workshops to specifically integrate beatbox phrases into handpan playing, develop creative flow, and expand their expressive range on the instrument. His sessions encourage playful experimentation, musical communication, and the joy of making music together.
